This second edition catalogues (with extensive photography) 113 West Pans Littler pieces from The Alastair Leslie Collection of Scottish East Coast Porcelain and is a complete revision of the original book.
William Littler (1724 – 1784) was producing soft paste porcelain and creamware at West Pans, in Scotland, between c.1764 and 1777 after his previous porcelain venture at Longton Hall, Staffordshire, ended with his bankruptcy in 1760. Archaeological investigations at West Pans were incredibly informative; including the recovery of wasters, marked with various underglaze painted crossed ‘Ls’, marks not used by Littler in Staffordshire and which indicate that many of the wares, previously identified as Longton Hall, should now be categorised as Scottish.
