Following the paths of honest men is not easy for either Ahmed or Hamid. Their choices have an impact far beyond the boundaries of their villages. Thousands of miles away, in foreign lands, strangers are making decisions, too. To the rest of the world – the deadly and illegal trade of hallucinogenic drugs is an anathema, abhorrent, to be fought without fear or favour… but in Afghanistan where villagers have no other source of income, what else can they do?

Really enjoyable book
I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this book. I found it enjoyable to read, a good story with some twists. Every chapter left me eager to read the next, sometimes hardly able to keep my eyes open but I wanted to know what happened next and it did not disappoint. I wish there could be more of Pedro Sanchez but his creator John sadly passed away in March 2012 aged 91, this was his first novel and in it’s publication he a realised a life long ambition.

Courage
William ‘John’ Taylor was an old friend, now sadly passed. This was his first novel, written when he was well into his eighties. Even more remarkable is the fact that he had lost his sight some years before. The book is a tribute to his own courage and the ‘wonders of modern technology’, without which the book would probably not have been possible.
